Hades II will launch on September 25, 2025 for PC, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2

Supergiant Games is gearing up for one of the most anticipated releases of the year as Hades II prepares to launch on September 25, 2025. Following an extended early access period that began in spring, the full version will be available for PC, Nintendo Switch, and the newly released Nintendo Switch 2.

The original Hades, released in 2020, became a cultural phenomenon—earning countless Game of the Year awards and redefining expectations for roguelike games. Now, its sequel aims to expand on the legacy with deeper storytelling, refined gameplay mechanics, and a bold new protagonist: Melinoë, the immortal Princess of the Underworld.

Unlike Zagreus, the son of Hades and star of the original game, Melinoë is a sorceress trained in shadowy arts. Her mission is to challenge the mighty Chronos, the Titan of Time, who has risen from the depths of the underworld to threaten the natural order. Thematically, the game takes on darker, more cosmic tones as it dives deeper into Greek mythology’s lesser-known corners.

From a gameplay perspective, Hades II builds on the fast-paced, isometric combat that made its predecessor a modern classic. Supergiant has introduced several new weapons and magical abilities, giving players a broader and more customizable combat toolkit. Magic is now a central feature, and Melinoë’s connection to witchcraft gives her unique spells and rituals that set her apart from Zagreus. Players can combine weapons with “Arcana” — new passive and active effects that further enhance builds.

The underworld itself has evolved. Each realm Melinoë must traverse is more dynamic and atmospheric, with day-night cycles, shifting hazards, and richer environmental storytelling. The game’s early access version already introduced players to the Fields of Mourning, a desolate region haunted by shades of lost heroes. With the full release, more areas are being added, including the Titan’s Spire, a towering realm that challenges both reflexes and strategy.

Supergiant has also doubled down on its narrative strengths. Dialogue is reactive and character-driven, with familiar gods like Hecate, Apollo, and Moros offering guidance, boons, and biting commentary. Relationships evolve over multiple runs, rewarding persistence with new story arcs, flashbacks, and character development. The studio’s signature voice acting, art style, and dynamic soundtrack return in full force, elevating every conversation and battle.

One of the most exciting aspects is the dual launch on Nintendo Switch and the newly released Switch 2. Players on the original Switch will enjoy a solid experience, while the Switch 2 version boasts enhanced resolution, frame rate, and load times. Cross-save support between PC and Switch platforms also ensures a smooth experience for players who like to move between platforms.

With its combination of adrenaline-pumping action, emotionally rich storytelling, and mythological flair, Hades II is shaping up to be more than just a worthy sequel — it’s poised to become one of the standout titles of 2025.

Whether you’re a returning fan or a newcomer to the series, September 25 is a date to mark. The gates of the underworld are opening once again — and this time, the Princess of the Dead leads the charge.
