Rocket League × Sonic the Hedgehog Crossover Coming Soon

Rocket League players are getting a blast of high-velocity nostalgia this fall, as the Blue Blur himself, Sonic the Hedgehog, races into the game for a limited-time crossover event. Starting September 23, 2025 and running until October 7, this collaboration is bringing Sonic-themed modes, cosmetics, and challenges to the arena. Strap in, hit boost, and get ready for a wild spin.

Sonic Spin LTM: Chaos with a Twist

One of the event’s marquee offerings is the Sonic Spin limited-time mode (LTM). In this mode, players will deal with a “fake ball”—a ball that homes in on the nearest player and can demolish them on contact. The fake ball speeds up over time, adding pressure and making matches more unpredictable. Meanwhile, the “real” ball is your usual Rocket League ball, and goals scored with it count toward victory.

The goal is to balance offense and defense, all while avoiding sudden chaos from the rogue fake ball. If you get hit by it, boom—you’re demoed and lose valuable positioning. Teams are competing not just for goals, but to survive the mayhem the fake ball brings.

Quests & Free Rewards

If you enjoy a challenge, this crossover has you covered. There are seven quests to complete, each offering themed rewards. Some of the highlights:

  • Score 50 goals in Online Matches to unlock the Sonic Star Post Antenna.
  • Drive supersonic speed for 343 meters during an online match to get the Animal Capsule Topper.
  • Win a number of matches while using high boost amounts to unlock titles like “YOU’RE TOO SLOW”.
  • Shut out your opponent while using nearly 2000 boost in a match to earn a Sonic Emblem Avatar Border.

These rewards are mix of visual flair—emblems, wheels, toppers, titles—that let you show off your Sonic fandom on the rocket-soccar pitch. Many are claimed via playing, not paying, so players can get several just by participating.

Sonic-Style Shop Offerings

For those who want to go all in, the event includes purchasable cosmetic bundles. The headline item is the Porsche 918 Spyder + Sonic the Hedgehog Bundle, featuring the Porsche 918 Spyder car body plus Sonic-, Super Sonic-, and Knuckles-style decals, plus themed wheels. This bundle is priced in credits and available through the item shop for the duration of the event.

Other items include Spin Dash Wheels, an invincibility themed boost, and a goal explosion (Super Sonic style) among others. Even if you don’t grab the bundle, there are smaller items to deck out your ride.

Rocket Pass & Season Perks

Aligned with Season 20, the Rocket Pass premium track also includes Sonic themed rewards. Players who bought or have access to this pass can unlock special Sonic graphics, wheels, banners, and more simply by earning XP. So even if you’re not grinding the new mode itself, the regular Rocket League progression gives you chances to snag Sonic gear.

Why This Crossover Matters

This event is more than just cosmetics and a fun gimmick—it’s a smart blend of Rocket League’s high-energy gameplay with Sonic’s speed and legacy. For longtime fans of Sonic, it’s a chance to see one of gaming’s most iconic characters in a fresh context. For Rocket League players, it adds unpredictable LTM mechanics and fun visuals to shake up the usual matches.

Limited-time events like this help keep Rocket League feeling dynamic. They offer something new to chase, decorate, and master. Even better: many rewards are free, so dedicated players don’t need to spend just to enjoy the crossover.
